Handling the Truth

Gene Hunt watched Alex Drake as she was talking with the rest of the team at a table in Luigi's.  He, however, chose to sit at the bar.  

"Oh my God, Gene, keep it in your pants!"

He looked down quickly and saw no apparent signs of... happiness.  "What the hell are you talking about?"

His ex-wife smiled back at him.  She was the reason why he wasn't hanging out with Raymundo, Chris, and them.  She was here and she wouldn't tell him why.

"I see you looking."

"Looking at what?" he asked, even though he knew this annoying game with he wouldn't stop until she got what she wanted.  She was excellent at nagging.  

"Her."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Gene replied, trying to keep cool with the situation.

"Fine," she said, obviously not satisfied with his answer.  She got up from her seat and walked away.   Whatever, he thought and took a sip from his drink.  That was the last bit to that glass.  Sadly Luigi wasn't in sight for a refill.

When Gene looked back at the team's table, he noticed his ex-wife there, getting real chatty.  "Bloody hell," he muttered to himself.  He marched his way to the table, arriving there at the end of some joke since they were all smirking.

"Hey guv," Chris said.

Ray turned around, "Don't know why you never told us much nice things 'bout her," he said with a wink and a nod in his ex-wife's direction.  Oh no, he better not have any inkling of the horn for her, because she was going to drop the big bomb on them.

"Oh the Gene genie's just upset I left him for another women," she said to Ray.  Gene felt his face redden and saw all the surprised faces around the table.  That was a tidbit he left out of conversation.  He could see that Chris and Ray were trying not to explode with laughter.

His ex turned to Alex, "You're Alex, right?"

"Yes I am."

"I have a question, how many times have you and Gene shagged?"

This time Chris and Ray couldn't hold back and started laughing.  Shaz even giggled, but Alex just blushed a bit.

"Why?" Alex asked, "Did he say something like that?"

Why couldn't Alex just have said a simple no?  This was going to turn into a big deal.

"No," his ex said, "but I could tell he was thinking of it."

Chris, Ray, and Shaz were basically howling with laughter at this point.  He wondered if everyone was looking at them.  They were making a scene.

"Really?" Alex questioned.  She seemed real curious.

"Yeah, you know before it happens in the near future I could always give you some tips.  Like handcuffs-"

"SHUT UP!" Gene yelled, finally getting a word in.  Everyone in Luigi's went deathly quiet.  If they weren't getting looked at before, they were getting looked at now.  Believing the levels of awkward were too high, Gene promptly left Luigi's.

"Hey, hey guv!" Chris called after him, "It was just a joke!"

"No use," his ex said once normal chatter in Luigi's began again, "It's hard for him to handle the truth."

And by the look on Alex's face, it was going to be hard for her to handle it too.
